Solve your problems ----The Birbal Way----

Crows in the Kingdom

Problem

One day Emperor Akber and Birbal were taking a walk in the palace gardens.
It was a fine summer morning and there were plenty of crows enjoying themselves around the pond.
While watching the crows, a question popped into Akbar's head.
He wondered how many crows there were in his kingdom.
Since Birbal was accompanying him, he asked Birbal this question.

Birbal's Solution

After a moment's thought, Birbal replied,
"There are ninety-five thousand four hundred and sixty-three crows in the kingdom."
Amazed by his response, Akbar tried to test him again,
"What if there are more crows than you mentioned?"
Without hesitating, Birbal replied,
"If there are more crows than my answer, then it means some crows are visiting from neighboring kingdoms."
"And what if there are less crows?" Akbar asked.
"Then some crows from our kingdom may have gone on holiday to other places!"

Management Moral:

Beware of statistics. They are often used to impress, but their reliability is often suspect.
Even if statistics are themselves correct, they can be variously interpreted.
Likewise, result of laboratory tests are often interpreted differently by different experts.
It is always safer to get a second opinion when confronted with statistics based upon which you have to take important decisions.
Birbal used this opportunity to acquaint Akbar with this truth indirectly.

Secondly, unless you have in place some mechanism for checking the performance of your subordinates or their efficiency,
there is no point trying to quiz them about it.
Without checks a great majority are bound to bluff their superior. It is part of human nature.

Just like me ...

All Day Staring At The Ceiling
Making Friends With Shadows On My Walls
All Night Hearing Voices Telling Me That
I Should Get Some Sleep
Because Tomorrow Might Be Good For Something

Hold On Feeling Like I'm Heading For A
Break Down And I Don't Know Why

I'm Not Crazy I'm Just A Little Unwell
I Know Right Know You Can't Tell
But Stay Awhile And Maybe You'll See
A Different Side Of Me
I'm Not Crazy I'm Just A Little Impaired
I Know Right Now You Don't Care
But Soon Enough You're Gonna Think Of Me
And How I Used To Be...Me

And Talking To Myself In Public
And Dodging Glances On The Train
And I Know...I Know They've All Been Talking About Me
I Can hear Them Whisper
And It Makes Me Think There Must Be Something Wrong With Me

Out Of All The Hours Thinking
Some How I've Lost My Mind

I'm Not Crazy I'm Just A Little Unwell
I Know Right Now You Can't Tell
But Stay Awhile And Maybe Then You'll See
A Different Side Of Me
I'm Not Crazy I'm Just A Little Impaired
I Know Right Now You Don't Care
But Soon Enough You're Gonna Think Of Me
And How I Used To Be

I've Been Talking In My Sleep
And Soon They'll Come To Get Me
And They're Taking Me Away

I'm Not Crazy I'm Just A Little Unwell
I Know Right Now You Can't Tell
But Stay Awhile And Maybe Then You'll See
A Different Side Of Me
I'm Not Crazy I'm Just A Little Impaired
I Know Right Now You Don't Care
But Soon Enough You're Gonna Think Of Me

And How I Used To Be
And How I Used To Be
How I Used To Be

I'm Just A Little Unwell
How I Used To Be
How I Used To Be
I'm Just A Little Unwell
